Gandhi bio
When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been many tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always.
--Muhatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India spend his years studying law and later advocating peace and freedom in India His journey started in Africa where as an India he faced discrimination and hardship in a British controlled colony. Seeing and experiencing this injustice drives him to start to make a stand.
After travelling back to India, he sees that people are living worse things than just having to carry identifications. Gandhi teams up with the Congress of India to start a freedom movement in India. As he continues to inspire the people, he is giving up more and more and living a very spiritual life while leading nonviolent protests and marches against the British. Gandhi lives his quote about good overcoming tyrants in the end and it finally happens after many arrests and massacres of the Indian people.
The freedom of India might of been a great victory if it did not lead to violence between Muslims and Hindus. Now Gandhi has another challenge to face. To protest these riots and strife he goes on a hunger strike for a week. This calms down the radicals just a bit to stop the fighting but a hatred still burns between the religions. In the end Truth and Wisdom has won but not without the cost of many lives, including Gandhi's. Assassinated on January 30, 1948 by a Hindu radicalist Gandhi's journey came to an end.

Pop cultrue
To research this topic I went to Youtube's India page and looked at the top 100. The video below is the only one I found... appropriate. This song is a mix of Indian styles and modern techniques. It is also a popular video with 68 million views. The american counterpart for music would be Daft Punk's new song. It doesn't have as many views but is becoming very popular. Now these songs aren't very similar but they reflect how music can be popular in all cultures. Its a universal thing that any culture can have.
